The spearmint plant is also known scientifically as Mentha Spicata. The cute little green plant is one of the most popular medicinal herbs in North America. Before doing my research on this beautiful plant, I knew it was used in lots of commodities and of course in my favorite Christmas candy and Easter minty chocolate. However, I learned a lot of surprising facts about the use of Spearmint Essential Oil. And I will share with you some of the most precious spearmint essential oil recipes that I discovered lately because they should not be a secret.
“The United States produces almost 10 million pounds of peppermint and spearmint, with about 55% of that amount going into toothpaste, about 30% into chewing gum, 10% into candy, and 5% into pharmaceuticals, soap, and shampoos.” 1
If you pay attention, you already know that we already use spearmint in some aspects of our daily life. It is one of the most popular oils in the mint family. Fun fact, most people assume that spearmint essential oil is extracted from the leaves, but it also comes from the flowering part of the plant. Spearmint essential oil shares many of the same properties and benefits as peppermint oil, but it also has another variety of uses that are not shared enough. Let me give you some kept secrets about this cute plant.

While I was researching the topics of essential oil recipes using spearmint essential oil I found out about a recipe that will probably change my future life and can change yours too. As a woman in my 50s and like a lot of other women, I am having midlife changes. I am not complaining! Most of them are being good. First of all, transitioning to menopause means I will finally get rid of my wild heavy periods. That is going to be a blessing, believe me.
But there is this new acquaintance called hot flashes. The annoying, and disturbing hot flashes. Last week, at around 3 p.m. I started feeling my head boiling like a presto. My husband, knowing what was happening, saw me and started joking. He said that it was early to get drunk. Funny Dad joke!! My face was so red from the hot flash. And I was feeling a huge pressure in my body like my whole being was a huge presto. This feeling is not great and I thought I could be able to find something to stop it. Well, out of the blue, I found a great way of escaping the hot flashes and it includes a couple of drops of spearmint oil.

Road Trip Roller Blend
Here is another spearmint essential oil recipes. This roller blend is great for occasional, stomach upset. I used it on my son when he was little. For some reason, getting up in the middle of the night to drive on a road trip, was too much for his little stomach. I was using a medication before I found out about the roll-on. When I discovered the blend, we stopped using the medication and he started enjoying the road trip. At some point, we didn’t need it.

The spearmint plant in your garden
Spearmint is an easy medicine plant to grow. The spearmint plant thrives in my garden. In my zone 6 in Ohio, this perennial herb is so generous that it can be an invasive plant. If you harvest a lot of this herbaceous perennial plant, it won’t be a problem. But I see it as a humble plant. It looks like not much with its fragile tiny pink and lilac flowers. But you can do so much with it, I add this one little plant to my herbal spring teas. I also did a relaxing pillow stuffed with dried spearmint plants that as a pleasant aroma. I believe that it is in its essential oil state that spearmint shines the most.
Diffuser blends to try at home
In our home, we use two misty essential oil diffusers. There is one, working on my desk right now with a blend for relieving headaches with the minty aroma that I like. A great choice in the office where there is stress with all the screens and electricity. Every time you enter the room, you are enveloped by the uplifting atmosphere and the mental clarity that the diffuser blends is making for you.
