Whether you’re looking for a cheerful morning pick-me-up or a fun afternoon treat, this drink is here for you! Personally, I love having coffee in the morning. Still, when I’m busy with Mamzelle Happy in the afternoon, this homemade vegan vanilla coffee frappe is my go-to for a little boost. Ready to blend something delicious? Let’s do it together!
What is a VEGAN Coffee?
Vegan coffee is a coffee or a coffee-based drink made without any animal products. It focuses on black coffee and uses plant-based alternatives like almond milk, oat milk, or vegan creamers instead of dairy milk or cream. While regular coffee beans are naturally vegan, avoiding non-vegan ingredients like dairy or honey ensures a coffee is truly vegan.
(VEGAN) Vanilla Coffee FRAPPÉ with Maple Syrup
Give my Vanilla Coffee FRAPPÉ recipe a try. Imagine the aromas of caramelized espresso intertwined with cool vanilla and maple syrup, paralleling the comfort of a cozy Starbucks Frappuccino, all without leaving the coziness of your home!
Whether you need a morning coffee or an afternoon boost, this drink is a great choice. I usually have coffee in the morning, but on busy afternoons with Mamzelle Happy, I make this homemade vegan vanilla coffee frappe to recharge. Let’s make it together.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 ml) strong coffee (espresso is nice, French press is fabulous, cold brew would be great, but you can use normal coffee)
- Use 1/2 cup (125 ml) of store bought or homemade non dairy milk. This flexibility allows you to customize the creaminess of your frappe according to your taste.
- 3 tablespoons (38 g) granulated sugar (alternatively, you can use 2-3 pitted medjool dates instead). If you choose medjool dates, soak them in warm water for about 10 minutes to soften them before adding to the blender. This will enhance both the sweetness and the smoothness of your frappe.
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of good quality vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 (300 ml) cups ice cubes
- A good shot of maple syrup
Instructions
Add all ingredients to the Vitamix or a high-speed blender that can crush ice. If you have a regular blender, try blending in batches or using smaller ice cubes to prevent any strain on your machine. Start mixing on low speed, then increase to medium-high. Blend for about 10 seconds or until smooth.
Notes
I would not use coconut milk in my coffee drink, because it often carries subtle floral notes reminiscent of fresh coconuts, but if you like it, feel free to create your tropical version!
For topping (optional):
- Non-dairy whipped cream
- Chocolate sauce

What kind of coffee should you use in your frappe recipe?
When selecting coffee for your vanilla frappé, I recommend using the best coffee you have. Personally, I love brewing mine in my MR Coffee machine, and my go-to coffee brand is Arbor Day Coffee. My family and I are particularly fond of this coffee! This coffee is grown under the rainforest canopy, resulting in a richer and more complex flavor profile. Additionally, every cup you enjoy supports farmers who are dedicated to preserving rainforest lands. These. Farmers also plant new trees, so you can feel good about your choice.

If you have an espresso machine at home, don’t hesitate to use it—espresso will give your vanilla frappé an extra boldness and creaminess, similar to what you’d get from a Starbucks Frappuccino. On the other hand, a French press makes an especially robust and aromatic brew, perfect for those who like their coffee strong. Be your own barista! No matter what equipment you have, the most important thing is to use what’s available to you and have fun experimenting with flavors. These are simple ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen, so let your inner barista shine and make this recipe your own.
How to add natural sweetness?

For this vanilla coffee frappe, I usually use granulated sugar, but if you prefer less sugar, you could substitute it with pitted dates for a natural sweetness. If you opt for dates, soak them in warm water for about 10 minutes to soften them and make them easier to blend—this helps create a creamy, smooth texture. As a nod to my French Canadian roots, I add a touch of maple syrup for extra flavor.
