This morning I decided, this was the day, I would deep clean my kitchen. Because I started the blog two months ago, I worked hard at my computer and I neglected my cleaning chores that I used to do, on a more regular basis. So, the kitchen tiles are in need of a good scrub. I won’t take ‘before and after’ pictures because the before one would be nasty. Especially on the back of the fridge… If you want to follow me, we can motivate each other.
A good idea, that comes to mind, would be to divide to conquer. If I divide my kitchen into different spaces, like the refrigerator area, then the oven, the sink, the island, the pantry it is going to be easier. If I tackle too much at the same time and I don’t have enough time, I get frustrated. So doing a one hour cleaning for every space will be enough and in the meantime, I can go walk the dogs or cook something good for my family. It is more manageable. There are no rules, just play with it, if you can spend 30 minutes a day on cleaning and organization, let’s do it! If you don’t have time for that, try 15 minutes. If you don’t have time for that, try 10 minutes. I am telling you: 10 minutes is better than nothing!
I read somewhere that people who keep their homes clean and organized are healthier, both physically and mentally. Spending the time and effort to keep your space clean is well worth it. Good news, it will make you HAPPY!
First step: Don’t forget to declutter
Take everything out of the shelves. Empty the whole space. The more we live in the kitchen, the more it slowly fills with stuff. Remove everything on and in the fridge. It’s time to wash all those little ‘knic knac’ and think if it is still okay to keep them. I have to admit that I still had bunnies from last Easter on display. Oh my! I wrapped them and put them in a box in the attics. It’s now time for winter wonderland memorabilia!
Cleaning products
I love doing my regular cleaning with the basics, no gimmick. A couple of clean rags, a bucket of soapy warm water and my essential oils. You can use any essential oil that you like. They could be natural disinfectants for cleaning your floors. Today I decided to use a mix called Good Vibes, from the trustee company Simply Earth. It is a mix of clary sage, geranium, lavender, lemon & Ho wood essential oil. Good Vibes, is an uplifting blend and it also helps with hormonal balance. This essential oil blend is appropriate for dogs and children of age 2 and up. It is one of my favorites to clean and diffuse in my home.

You can add white vinegar in a spray bottle to tackle some tough stains, just remember to not mix white vinegar with Castile soap. The acidity of the vinegar will cause the Castile soap to solidify.
Some more basic tips
The simple basic secret is to rinse your soft cloth with clean water every time it is dirty. Don’t put your dirty rag in the soapy water or you will ruin it. You can also discard the dirty cloth and use a new wet cloth every occasion.
In your spray bottle you can also use cheap vodka! Hey! It’s christmas. Lol! Vodka is a great cleaning agent. It won’t smell like vinegar and the odor of alcohol will evaporate faster.
Clean from top to bottom
Start with dusting. Or if you have an attachment on your vacuum, you can vacuum the ceiling, the backsplash tiles , the wall and the floor. Pull out the appliances, the fridge, the oven. Vacuum all the dust, then take your clean cloth and wash the wall, the cabinet and finish with the kitchen tiles.
The best way to clean your kitchen tiles
My kitchen floor is ceramic tile, so I can use the soapy warm water recipe. If it is really dirty I will add a little tablespoon of lemon juice, or you can use a spray bottle with lemon juice in it. No need to wipe anything, except if you were a little too generous on the water. If it is the case, take your clean rag and wipe it off. My grout lines around the floor tiles are a dark color so no need to clean with an old toothbrush. But, If you have white tile grout, I would use a little lemon juice that you let sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then you scrub.
Hand mopping or not?
I am a firm believer that hand mopping is the most effective way to clean your floors. The best results are attained on my hands and knees and there is nothing wrong with a little bit of elbow grease! Your floor will look sparkling clean. Of course, you can use a sponge mop or a chamois mop, if you prefer.
Why am I making non-toxic cleaning recipes?

The main reason is to prevent any illness in my family by removing hazardous chemicals. The earth doesn’t need more harsh chemicals. When I flush my cleaner in the toilet, I know I am not hurting a living thing. Also, if you have little elves (meaning kids or dogs) in your family that steal your cleaning items, you’re not stressed about poisoning them. My dog Happy will live longer because of all the natural ingredients I switched too. Also my house smells so good with the help of the essential oils. My home smell amazing and it lifts my spirits. It is almost fun to clean!
See that was not that bad. Now you know how to clean kitchen tiles the natural way!
