Nobody likes the pain of an ear infection. I don’t know why, but it always surprisingly happened in the middle of the night when my son was a baby. So, I used to visit the doctor at the clinic. His answer was usually to get antibiotics. I am not a big fan of antibiotics, but sometimes you need them. So, at that moment, it was okay. Later in life, I learned that garlic ear oil was a natural remedy that you could buy in a drugstore, online at Mountain Roses Herbs, or make your own. Companies would name their bottle something like “ the magical ear oil,” and they would add organic mullein flowers and calendula flower oil. I would buy a bottle with this mixture of garlic oil, and surprisingly, it would work. Without the trip to the clinic, which was so nice!
Years later, I found out that I could do my own garlic oil. And you can, too. It is an easy recipe, costing only pennies, and it will do the same trick. The ear pain would go away. Let me show you how to make this garlic ear oil.
Here is how to do your own garlic ear oil
Material
- 1 or 2 organic garlic cloves, peeled and sliced
- Two tablespoons of organic olive oil
- Double boiler
- small boiled clean glass bottle with lid or clean dropper bottle
- piece of cotton
- strainer
Instructions
Add the fresh garlic and the olive oil to the top of a double boiler
Warm the oil and the fresh garlic over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes —you don’t want it hot.
Swirl the oil around the pan until the oil smells strongly of garlic
Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
Pour the garlic oil into the jar, straining out the garlic pieces. Be careful to strain every piece of garlic.
I read the fresh garlic ear oil recipe for the first time in one of my favorite medicine books Medicinal Herbs Books of Rosemary Gladstar.

Use of the oil
Warm the bottle before use. Place the bottle under warm water until the oil is as warm as a mother’s milk. Use 1-2 drops of warmed oil into the ear, massage around the ear, and repeat every 30 minutes up to a few times a day.
Gently place the piece of cotton over the opening of the ear canal just enough to stop the oil from seeping out. Leave the person being treated in the same position for 10 minutes.
Storage
Recent research by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) explains that the safest recommendation is to freeze garlic oil. If the product is not frozen, it should be refrigerated and then either consumed within four days or discarded. Don’t keep the oil bottle in a cool pantry or a closet.
Garlic (Allium Sativum) benefits
Our common garlic, the Allium Sativum, may be one of the most popular and globally recognized of all the herbs. According to the National Library of Medicine, garlic health benefits appear to enhance the functioning of the immune system 1
Garlic has been employed as a food and herbal preparation for thousands of years. Its virtues have also been praised by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates.
Garlic is energetically hot and drying with a pungent taste.
The occasional ear aches often heal without antibiotics, but don’t hesitate to seek urgent care if symptoms persist.
Health conditions
I recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications. Be aware that this natural remedy recipe is not intended for swimmer’s ears or any infection caused by water entering the ears. It is one of the best home remedies for a wide spectrum of ear problems, especially ear infections associated with colds and respiratory problems.
Do not use garlic oil on your pet.
Some companies that have already made garlic ear oil say you can use it on your dog. I would not recommend that, as garlic is poisonous to dogs, according to AKC and ASPCA. Call your vet, to find out what would be the more natural way to treat your dogs’ ears. But please never use the garlic clove recipe for your pets.
